Spring Festival- 

"19th C. Romanticism-French Revolution to WWI"

Entry Fee: $35
This competitive branch festival is open to all levels of Strings, Winds, Brass and voice students (no piano). Students will perform in recital format (with an audience) according to age (there may be more than one recital depending on enrollment). Students will perform one selection from the Romantic period of music (French Revolution to WWI). Evaluators will provide written comments for all participants and award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for each recital with honorable mentions if judges see fit.

Sonata/Sonatina Festival

April 18, 2026

Bethlehem Lutheran Church

​Entry Fee: $50
In this competitive festival, students perform a movement from a Sonatina or Sonata (the first or final movement only) and another piece from a contrasting style period (as defined by the CM Piano Syllabus). All pieces must be memorized. There are 3 divisions, each with their own time limits:

     Elementary (K-grade 4)– 5 minute time limit

     Intermediate (grades 5-7)– 7 minute time limit

     Senior (grades 8-12)– 9 minute time limit

All students receive certificates and evaluations from two judges. Trophies are awarded to the first place winners in each category and medals will be awarded to second place, third place, and any honorable mentions, at the judges’ discretion. First-pace winners are invited to perform at the annual Installation Potluck.​​

Branch Recital: Adult Students
Saturday, 4/16/26​

Entry Fee: $15
This recital is reserved specifically for adult students (18 & up). Branch Recitals provide performance opportunities for students of all levels and ages. Recitals are scheduled
on Saturdays, and the number of programs depends on the number of entries. Performance and dress codes
must be followed as instructed on the application form. It is recommended students memorize solo pieces.

Baroque Festival

​Entry Fee: $35

This competitive branch festival is open to all levels of keyboard, instrumental, and voice students and teachers. Students will perform in recital format (with an audience) according to age (there may be more than one recital depending on enrollment). Students will perform one selection from the Baroque period of music.

An Evaluator will provide written comments for all participants and award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for each recital with honorable mentions if judges see fit.​​

Fall Festival- "Contemporary Music"

Entry Fee: $35

This competitive branch festival is open to all levels of keyboard, instrumental, and voice students and teachers. Students will perform in recital format (with an audience) according to age (there may be more than one recital depending on enrollment). Students will perform one selection from the Contemporary period of music. This includes all genres of music: Classical, Pop, Jazz, etc. Evaluators will provide written comments for all participants and award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for each recital with honorable mentions if judges see fit.

Branch Recital: Methods and Arrangements

Students may perform arrangements of songs, improvisations, original compositions, songs from method books, themes from movies...basically, anything goes! 

(Branch Recitals provide performance opportunities for students of all levels and ages. Recitals are scheduled on Saturdays, and the number of programs depends on the number of entries. Performance and dress codes must be followed as instructed on the application form. It is recommended students memorize solo pieces.)​​

​Payment for the Bach festival is handled by parents on the Southern California Junior Bach Festival website. Before registering students, teachers must pay an annual $25 fee to use the SCJBF webiste. 

Theme Festival- "Music in Nature"

Saturday, 11/15/25

Entry Fee: $35
This competitive Branch festival is open to all levels of keyboard, instrumental, and voice students and teachers. This year's theme is "Music in Nature." Performance times should be no longer than five minutes. Participants will receive a certificate and written comments!

Southern California Junior Bach Festival

Saturday, 3/21/26

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Los Alamitos

​Entry Fee: $35

The Bach Festival is independently run through Southern California Junior Bach Festival.  Registration is done through their website.  Students participating in this festival will receive comments from three evaluators.  Students performing works by J. S. Bach may be eligible to compete in SCJBF’s regional festival.​​​

Ensemble Festival

Saturday, 12/6/25
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Los Alamitos
Entry Fee: $15 (per participant)
This Festival is open to ensembles of all ages, levels, and instruments (including voice). We welcome students, teachers, family members, and friends. Holiday Music is welcome!
